A week ago we thought Summer would never come (not to mention Spring which seemed to have passed us by), but sometime last week the temperature rose and the grass started growing. While we may moan at another wet day, it's what was needed and looking out last night across at Wellbank, we used a novel method to measure if there is enough grass to keep the cows going if we let them out - yes, we couldn't see the crows' legs!
So fences were checked, yard gates were closed and the Cattleplan doors opened and for the first time since last September the Dairy cows headed out to feel grass beneath their feet.
