Hey, why plaster over all of those lovely hand-made bricks? Why not get the rest of the old plaster, etc off ? It might need chemicals, or sand-blasting - but not much of that even. And the end-effect should be not only more really "rustic" and genuine but warm, too. (When - note when - you come over , we'll show you what it looks like chez nous).

The only (very few)handmade bricks were in the back of the various old openings. The stone looks really rough and tacky - made up of a mish mash of whatever was found roundabout.We did consider leaving it - but it looked wrong in the context of the rest of the room.
I's now got a scratch coat - drying out for plastering.
